True Blue Friend

Here’s another card we did at my stamp class this weekend, using the Go Go Boots Sizzlits Alphabet Die Set. The letters were cut out of Close to Cocoa card stock and glued onto the card as the last step (short names were recommended!).

The Ski Slope Designer Series Paper started out as a 5-1/2″ x 4″ piece, and we created a fancy scalloped border with the slit punch. On the back side of the paper, we made pencil marks about 2″ from the bottom at 1/2″, 1-1/4″, 2″, 2-3/4″, 3-1/2″, 4-1/4″, and 5″ (you’ll notice that the marks are 3/4″ apart). Then we matched up the center of the slit punch with each pencil mark and punched the paper seven times. We folded over the edge to show the other side of the double-sided patterned paper and slipped in a 5-1/2″ x 1/2″ strip of Real Red card stock, which was adhered to the DSP.

The Punches Three sentiment was stamped twice on Whisper White card stock and punched out with the square scallop punch. The red image was trimmed down and mounted on top of the blue image with dimensionals. Kiwi Kiss striped grosgrain ribbon was tied in a knot to the Real Red card.

Stair Step Card

Stair Step Card

This is the first stair step card I’ve ever made, and I designed it for my stamp class this weekend. I started out with a 4-1/4″ x 10-1/2″ piece of Bravo Burgundy card stock. This paper was scored at 1-1/4″, 2-1/2″, 4-1/4″, 6″, and 8-1/4″. When you fold on these score lines, make sure that the smallest “step” is at the front of the card. The patterned papers are all 4″ wide and have varying heights (1″, 1-1/2″, and 2″). We stamped the Eastern Blooms branch with VersaMark ink on the Pink Pirouette scallop circle and embossed it with silver powder. The scallops were pierced and the piercings were accentuated with the white gel pen.

The large flower was stamped with Bravo Burgundy ink on Pink Pirouette card stock and cut out. A large pop-glue dot was placed in the center of the flower and silver embossed (don’t forget to use your Embossing Buddy on the flower before adding the glue dot!). The little flower was stamped on Whisper White card stock and punched out with the largest flower in the Boho Blossoms punch. The edges were sponged with Pink Pirouette ink.

Swirled Sun

Swirled Sun

I learned this really cool technique for making a beautiful sun at the Virginia Beach Stampin’ Up! regional seminar. You punch a circle out of a Post-it® note and place the reverse mask on your card. Then you ink up a sponge dauber with the lightest yellow first (I used Summer Sun) and you swirl the ink inside the cut-out circle, moving clockwise (or counterclockwise) from the outer edge to the center, leaving a little bit of white showing. Then you swirl a slightly darker yellow (e.g. More Mustard) along the outer edge, and heavier on the bottom. You then place the Post-it® circle on top of your sun, and sponge blue ink around it for the sky.

The rest of the card was inspired by one of the cards Melissa Ellis (the demonstrator who taught this technique) showed us. I stamped the grass with Always Artichoke ink and added a few pieces of Chocolate Chip card stock (punched out with the Horizontal Slot Punch) to make it look like cattails. I added a second, torn, Top Note die-cut at the bottom of the stamped image and created the illusion of snow with Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds glitter on top of the torn edge.

Color Blocking Technique

Color Blocking Technique

When I first tried the color blocking technique (back in January of 2007), I thought it was one of the most challenging things I’d ever done while making a card. But it was also a lot of fun, so I picked this technique for my WICKED technique challenge on the demo side of SCS.

I started out by stamping the three Flores Suaves images with black StazOn ink on Very Vanilla card stock, and coloring them in. I trimmed the paper down to size and decided to make my card a 5-1/2″ square, so that I would have room to add various “pieces” to the puzzle. I knew I wanted to use a vanilla hodgepodge designer label frame, and I used a 1-3/8″ circle punch to make the curved notches in the paper above and below the frame. I had fun measuring the different pieces of Juntos Designer Series Paper and fitting them all together on the card, while trying to maintain a 1/8″ space between every piece.

I do hope you’ll give this technique a try! Leave me a comment with a link to your project; I’d love to see what you made!

My WICKED Sketch Challenge

December 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

As I mentioned yesterday, I was asked to host the WICKED challenges on the demo side of splitcoaststampers this month. This was the sketch I came up with as one of the challenges:

WICKED Sketch

Here’s the card I made using the sketch:

Thinking of You

I inked up the branch stamp with Pink Piroutte ink first, then removed the ink from the stems with a blender pen and colored them Bravo Burgundy with a marker. A little huff on the stamp, and then the image was stamped onto the Whisper White oval. I did a little freehand piercing along the edge of the oval.

The sentiment from Always in My Thoughts was stamped with Bravo Burgundy ink on Whisper White card stock and punched out with the 1″ circle punch. A little tip about the piercing on the pink scallop circle: it is easier to pierce the circle (from the Punches Plus Classy Brass template) first, and then use your Scallop Circle Punch to punch around it.

Hope you give this sketch a try! Leave a comment with the link to your card, and I’ll be sure to visit!
