Sew Happy to Be WICKED!

Sew Happy

WICKED stands for Wonderfully Inspiring Challenges Keep Educating Demos. Every month there are three WICKED challenges on the demo side of splitcoaststampers, hosted by a demonstrator chosen by the moderators of the demo challenge forum. I could hardly believe it when Jana and Patty asked me to be December’s host of the WICKED challenges.

I picked this color combination as one of the challenges: Always Artichoke, Basic Black, Bordering Blue, and Tangerine Tango (had to get orange in there somehow). The sewing machine image is one of the lovely vintage stamps in the Puns from the Past set (you can get this set and others in the catalog sampler at 20% off with a $20 order this month). I tried another stitch on my sewing machine and the stitching didn’t turn out quite as perfect as I would have liked it to be, but I think that it gives the card more character.

If you’d like to give this color combination a try, leave a comment with a link to your project so that I can have a look!

Featured Stamper: Dawn Burnworth

Featured Stamper: Dawn Burnworth

I was delighted to see Beth had picked flowergal36 as today’s Featured Stamper on SCS; she’s most deserving! Her Sweetest Flower card grabbed my attention and I thought it would be perfect for a little (4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″) thank you card I needed to make today.

Instead of Happiness Always, I used Inspired by Nature stamps, and I also changed the colors to match the satin ribbon I had chosen. I love how her brayered background has such soft borders; mine was sponged and has much sharper edges. I stamped the flower first after inking it up with markers, and I created the background afterwards.

The sentiment from Wow Flowers was punched out with a 1-1/4″ circle punch and layered on top of a designer label that has a 1-3/8″ circle attached to it. I embellished with a Ruby Red brad and the Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla satin ribbon.

Holiday Mini CASE

Holiday Mini CASE

I have been saving this pattern of Ski Slope Designer Series Paper to CASE the card on page 12 of the Holiday Mini Catalog. I love that card! Since I needed to make 10 Christmas cards for my last installment of the 2008 Holiday Card Challenge, I decided the time had come to make this card. A few minor adjustments were made (can you spot the differences?), but my 10 cards came together very quickly. Sometimes it’s just nice when the designing has already been done for you.

Embossing Resist Technique

Embossing Resist Technique

Kristina Werner has a festive color inspiration challenge this week (#32): Riding Hood Red, Sahara Sand (or a metallic), Very Vanilla, and Whisper White. I combined her colors with the Embossing Resist Technique.

I started by stamping the large snowflake from the Holiday Collection set with VersaMark ink on Very Vanilla card stock and embossing the images with silver powder. Then I stamped the small snowflake and embossed those images with clear powder. Riding Hood Red ink was sponged all over the panel, and the snowflakes were wiped clean with a paper towel.

The sentiment was first stamped with VersaMark ink on Brushed Silver card stock and silver embossed. I then stamped it with Riding Hood Red ink on Glossy White card stock and cut out the center. I pierced two holes for the silver cord to go through and tied the cord into a bow on top of the taffeta ribbon.

For a Little Ravens Fan

For a Little Ravens Fan

I needed to make a birthday card for my friends’ little girl who is turning 1 tomorrow. They are huge Baltimore Ravens fans, so I had to color the little bird from Fun & Fast Notes purple (or rather, Lovely Lilac). The sketch I used was today’s challenge on SCS (SC204), and I also followed the SCS tutorial by Mary Jo Albright for the scallop square. I definitely am going to need to some more practice with this technique!

I stamped the image with black StazOn ink on watercolor paper and colored it in with Classic inks and an Aqua Painter. The buttons were adhered to the ribbon with Mini Glue Dots, and I drew a “faux thread” with my white gel pen.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and safe holiday travels!
