Tent Fold

Tent Fold

I was intrigued by last week’s Let’s Go Camping demo challenge on SCS, and decided to try making a card with that cool card fold (aka tent fold). First I made one out of copy paper, and when I had the folding down, I started out with an 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Bordering Blue card stock.

The pink flowers on the Bella Birds Designer Series Paper reminded me of the Botanical Blooms Sale-A-Bration set. I tucked a pieced of punched Whisper White card stock under the bottom edge of the DSP. Love that new eyelet border punch! I stamped the flower with Pink Pirouette ink and the leaves and sentiment with Bordering Blue ink on a 2-1/8″ x 2-1/8″ Whisper White square that was matted with textured Pink Piroutte card stock.

To keep the card closed (you have to unfold it to write/read the message inside), I clipped on a 1/2″ silver library clip. It works great as a functional embellishment on this card!

I just received the gorgeous Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set as a gift from my friend Connie, so I looked for a floral card to CASE in today’s FS’s gallery (juliemlacey). This wonderful Floral Thoughts card became my inspiration. I took the colors for my card from the striped Parisian Breeze Specialty Designer Series Paper.

A lot of wonderful new products from the Spring-Summer 2009 Idea Book & Catalog were used on this card: fine Chocolate Chip glitter, yummy Baja Breeze satin ribbon, awesome corduroy buttons and handsome striped Kraft paper.

It’s in the Cards

It's in the Cards

My dad is an avid card player, and I thought he might enjoy a birthday card with “cards” on it. Can you guess how old he’ll be next week? I wanted to use the exact colors from Kristina Werner’s color inspiration challenge (#41), but substituted Real Red for Riding Hood Red because it looked more like the color of real playing cards.

The diamond background was created with the new Stampin’ Up! exclusive Texturz plates. I add an extra piece of cardstock as a shim when I roll the plate through the Big Shot and get a better impression that way. The Dutch sentiment was stamped on a die-cut and I added a mini library clip with some grosgrain ribbon tied to it.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Birthday Birdie

Birthday Birdie

I had this idea of using the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Stem Sayings set with the curvy branch of my newly acquired Cheep Talk set. It took a little bit of Stamp-A-Ma-Jigging, but I am not totally unsatisfied with the result. First I inked up the branch stamp with Kiwi Kiss and removed the ink from everything but the leaves with a blender pen. Then I added the Close to Cocoa ink with a marker and stamped on Whisper White card stock. The bird was inked up with Taken with Teal, Only Orange, and Close to Cocoa markers. The sentiment was stamped with Taken with Teal ink, and I added a (retired) Only Orange eyelet to fill in the gap between the words.

The layout was inspired by Fall-To Layout #28 on the clean & simple stamping blog. I tweaked it a little bit by moving the sentiment.

Hope you can see the textured background in the picture. It just wouldn’t photograph very well for me.

Feb. 14 Birthday

Feb. 14 Birthday

I have a dear friend who has a February 14 birthday, and I always try to make her card special. This year I happen to have a stamp of the date itself, an image from the A Happy Heart set, and I just had to use it.

Kristin, one of my fellow Great Swaps Girls, challenged us to make a monochromatic card and I went for a Riding Hood Red / Very Vanilla color combo. She also wanted us to use one current and one retired stamp set, so I grabbed the retired It’s Your Birthday set for the sentiment at the bottom of the card. The “vintagey” red ribbon from the Dress Up Ribbon Originals was just the right color for the card.
