Retro Style Polka Dot Punches

Retro Style Polka Dot Punches

Here’s my attempt to apply the Retro Style (as seen on pages 10-11 of the Spring-Summer 2009 Idea Book & Catalog) to the Polka Dot Punches Sale-A-Bration set. I combined the Bashful Blue pattern from the Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper with the following colors: Pacific Point, Only Orange, and Chocolate Chip.

I started the color blocking with a 1-1/4″ Only Orange square that was punched once with the ticket corner punch. I glued it down onto a 5-1/4″ x 4″ Pacific Point panel with piercing along its edges. The DSP panels measure 2-1/8″ x 1-1/4″ and 3-3/8″ x 1-1/4″ and the large orange panel measures 3-3/8″ x 2-1/8″. I stamped the birthday sentiment with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it with white powder.

The flower was stamped with Pacific Point ink on Whisper White card stock and punched out with the 1-1/4″ circle punch. The heart of the flower is actually part of the five-petal flower image in the same SAB set, and was inked up with the VersaMarker and white embossed on Only Orange card stock.

Almost Time to Sale-A-Brate!

Almost Time to Sale-A-Brate!

February 1, 2009 is the first day of Stampin’ Up!’s Sale-A-Bration. If you’re not familiar with this term, it means you can earn free rubber, paper, and/or ribbon (this year). Check out my SU! website on February 1st for all the details.

I made this card with a couple of items from the SAB mini catalog: the Polka Dot Punches stamp set and the coordinating Delicate Dots Designer Series Paper. As you can see, the stamped (and heat embossed) image fits perfectly inside the Scallop Square Punch, and the other 3 images in the set match other SU! punches.

A layout from the clean & simple stamping blog (FTL23) was my inspiration. The sentiment is one of the brown Chit Chat rub-ons.

Featured Stamper: Vicky Gould

Featured Stamper: Vicky Gould

Vicky is such a deserving Featured Stamper on SCS today! I found this gorgeous Friendship card in her gallery and couldn’t wait to pull out my old stamps and CASE it.

The Designer Series Paper I used is retired, as is the stamp set, Botanicals. I stamped the image with Basic Brown ink and colored the poppies purple (to match the paper) with a blender pen. Instead of photo corners, I decided to curl up two of the corners of the patterned paper mat, and do some piercing in the Perfect Plum corners underneath.

Thanks for stopping by!

Goodbye, Neighbor!

Goodbye, Neighbor!

A few days ago a friend of mine moved out of our little cul-de-sac. I’m going to send her this cheerful card to congratulate her with her new house (which is only 12 miles away, and I’m sure we’ll stay in touch).

The sketch I used came from Jen del Muro and was a lot of fun. I combined sheets from two different Designer Series Paper packages, and used one section of the Neighborhood jumbo wheel for my main image. The house was “wheeled” with black StazOn ink on watercolor paper and colored in with Classic inks and an Aqua Painter. When the image was dry, I cut it out and mounted it on top of a Bashful Blue and a Real Red circle. I cut out two little clouds, that were lightly colored with Bashful Blue ink, and adhered them to the card with dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the Fun & Fast Notes set, and because I separated the words from the images when I mounted my stamps, it was easy to ink up and stamp “congratulations” all by itself.

Wishing Upon Many Stars

Wishing Upon Many Stars

I learned this very cool technique for making spiral pop-up cards at Stampin’ Up!’s convention in July, and I taught it at my stamp class last weekend. You should have seen the reaction when I showed the card we were going to make, and opened it up to let everybody see the inside:

Wishing Upon Many Stars (inside)

I used vellum card stock for the spirals, and glued the stars to the vellum with Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive. The stamped star images (both big and small) are from the recently retired Classic Backgrounds set. I picked the colors from the Frosty Day Designer Series Paper that was used on the front of the card.

Everybody enjoyed making this nice flat, mailable birthday card with a fun surprise on the inside!
