Featured Stamper: Roxie Glaza

This week’s Featured Stamper is the fabulous hostess of the weekly sketch challenges: Rox71. Her cards are always inspiring and her sketches are awesome! I have several of her images saved in My Favorites gallery, including this one: Simple Punches.

The patterned paper she used reminded me of this sheet of (retired) Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper. I punched the flowers with the Boho Blossoms punch and embellished them with copper eyelets. Always thought that copper and Groovy Guava looked so good together!

Sparkling Resist

Sparkling Resist

Wow, there are so many fabulous techniques in the June 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I think I want to try them all! This card uses the sparkling resist technique, although I wasn’t quite able to capture the sparkle in my picture. The layout I used is Weekend Sketch Challenge #83, hosted by Lori Craig.

I stamped the outline flower from the A Beautiful Thing set with Baja Breeze ink on a 4-5/8″ x 2-3/8″ piece of Whisper White card stock. After making sure the ink was dry, I rubbed the embossing buddy over the paper and stamped the bold flower with VersaMark ink, then embossed with Iridescent Ice powder. Next I brayered Chocolate Chip ink all over and wiped the ink off the flowers with a paper towel. The rub-on sentiment was originally on two lines, but I made it go across the entire width of the card.

Limited Supplies Challenge

Limited Supplies Challenge

This is a Splitcoast challenge I don’t often participate in, but I really liked the rules of today’s Plenty of Patterns challenge:

  • ½ sheet of plain cardstock for your card base—no other plain papers…NONE. Not even for mats.
  • Plenty of patterned paper, decorative paper, flocked paper, glitterized paper, shiny paper, etc.
  • No coloring supplies…no copics, pencils, markers, crayons, etc.
  • Please keep embellishments simple.

I thought this simple layout with the paper pieced flower was perfect for drawing the attention to the Anne Frank quote, which is the English translation of “wie gelukkig is, zal anderen gelukkig maken.” She was a remarkable young girl…

Big Little Felt Flurry

Big Little Felt Flurry

I made several of these cards for my May entry in the 2009 Christmas Card Challenge on SCS. Yay, this means I have now 50 cards in my stash for the upcoming holiday season!

The card base is an 8-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Baja Breeze card stock folded in half. I adhered a 4″ square of (retired) Ski Slope Designer Series Paper and added paper piercing and silver brads. The felt snowflake was placed on a 3″ Baja Breeze circle that was matted with a die-cut scalloped circle. Again, I used Beate’s handy trick to do the piercing on the circle.

For Pop

For Pop

I couldn’t wait to use my To the Nines Specialty Designer Series Paper when I saw today’s sketch challenge (SC230) on SCS. All those layers were just perfect for all these coordinating masculine patterns and colors. And to top it off, the image panel was the exact same size as my Happy Father’s Day stamp. What a lucky coincidence, since I wanted to make this into a card for my father-in-law (aka Pop).

The sentiment was stamped with Chococlate Chip Craft ink and clear embossed, and “Pop” was formed with die-cut letters that were glued to the oval panel. I stuck two corduroy buttons together and adhered them with mini glue dots to the card.
