Life in a Cup

Life in a Cup

Nothing tastes better to me in the morning than a nice cup of coffee, which is why I really love this sentiment (and entire Delightful & Delicious stamp set) from Verve Stamps. I made this card for one of Verve’s January Release challenges, a sketch challenge by Teresa Kline. I pulled several scraps of retired Berry Bliss DSP from my stash for the various panels. Instead of using a circular element, I stamped a steamy cup of coffee on white card stock, colored it with a pink marker, cut it out, and adhered it to the card with dimensionals.

I bought the Bow-Easy in a local scrapbooking store in Virginia years ago, but it’s thanks to StampTV’s video tutorial that I am finally able to use it. The directions that came with the product definitely had me stumped!

Double SCS Challenge

Double SCS Challenge

It’s been a long time since I’ve combined the SCS color and sketch challenges on one card, but I managed to this week! I ended up turning the SC263 sketch sideways, but used all three colors of CC253 without fail: Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip, and Rich Razzleberry. Betty added a twist to the color challenge: show a houndstooth print on your card. Luckily, I had held on to this retired SU! background stamp, which I stamped with Rich Razzleberry ink on the background panel.

I stamped the Charming image with Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White card stock and cut it out with an oval Nestie, then sponged Pretty in Pink ink along the embossed edge. Thin brown ribbon helped divide the background panel into the two sections of the layout, and wide pink ribbon was tied into one big beautiful knot as embellishment.

Moments That Take Our Breath Away

Moments That Take Our Breath Away

This is the first time I’ve played with digital paper to make a card. I had purchased the papers that go with the Lovely Shelf stamp set from Gina K. Designs, but used them here with a sentiment from the Sweetest Memories set. It was fun to be able to change the size of the images, especially so I could get the right size lace flowers for my build-a-brads!

The sentiment was stamped with the retired Baroque Burgundy ink from Stampin’ Up!, which seemed to go well with these colors, and cut out with a Nestie. Unfortunately I don’t own a Copic Airbrush System, so I made do with a plain old sponge to add a little bit of color on the label while it was still sitting inside the die.

Parisian Summer Birthday

Parisian Summer Birthday

I wanted to make an elegant birthday card for my aunt, who is very elegant herself. The layout I used is this week’s Mojo Monday sketch (MOJO120), with a few tweaks.

Since it’s so unusually cold right now, I enjoyed pulling out this Parisian Summer DSP. I stamped the Verve images with SU! ink and cut the circle with a Nestie, then added a scalloped Pink Pirouette mat with another Nestie. The self-adhesive half pearls were colored with a Buttercup Yellow Copic marker before I adhered them to the card.

Herringbone Technique

Herringbone Technique

I finally got an opportunity to try this intriguing herringbone technique from the Technique Junkie Newsletter, and I was inspired by the quilt Kristina Werner mentioned in her latest color inspiration challenge (#57). So I used her colors, most of which were present in SU!’s retired Walk in the Park DSP: deep red, coral, baja blue, mustard, saffron, and white.

I cut the strips of designer paper 3/8″ wide and glued them to a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock. I matted the herringbone pattern with More Mustard onto a Riding Hood Red card. The birthday sentiment was stamped with More Mustard ink and punched out, then stamped again with Riding Hood Red ink so that I could add a popped-up, red ‘happy birthday’ to the tag. I punched a hole in the tag and ran a piece of grosgrain ribbon through it, then attached the tag to the card. The finishing touch was a small piece of ribbon with pointy ends that I attached behind the tag with mini glue dots.
