Faux Silk

Faux Silk

If you signed up for my stamp class this month, you are getting a preview of one of the cards we’ll be making. The technique I used for the background panel is called faux silk. First I ran the Forever Flowers wheel with Chocolate Chip ink over regular tissue paper and colored the flowers and leaves in with a blender pen. Then I rolled the tissue paper up into a little ball, and flattened it again. It was glued to Whisper White card stock, and after the corners were mitered the edges were folded to the back, and the panel was adhered to the Berry Bliss DS paper.

The sentiment was stamped on Whisper White card stock in Chocolate Chip ink, but Pretty in Pink ink was added with a stipple brush because the white looked too stark. I adhered the Hodgepodge frame to the card with the Chocolate Chip ribbon from the Occasions Mini Catalog tied into a little bow.

Summer Time

Summer Time

Here’s an unusual bold and bright card from me for today’s TLC challenge on splitcoaststampers.com. We had to pick three old challenges and combine them to make a card. The color combination I chose (Summer Sun, Real Red, and Pink Passion) ended up being a bigger challenge than I expected it to be.

The technique used on this card is called spotlighting, and it is great if you don’t have time to do a lot of coloring – you just have a color a small part of the image! I stamped the bike on Pink Passion and Whisper White card stock, and then punched out the flower basket with the 1-1/4″ circle punch. After coloring in the image with Stampin’ Up! markers, I layered it on a 1-3/8″ Summer Sun circle and glued this on top of the Pink Passion card stock. Yellow rhinestones were added to the wheels for some extra sparkle.

Featured Swapper: Lisa Henke

Featured Swapper: Lisa Henke

I am catching up on the Great Swaps Girls challenges, since I just returned from a three-week vacation in Belgium. This card combines both the Featured Swapper challenge (yay, Lisa!) and color challenge of this past week.

I found this wonderful window flowers card in Lisa’s SCS gallery, and decided to use the One of a Kind stamp set on my version.

I stamped the big flower twice on Certainly Celery and twice on Cameo Coral paper, and cut out the different layers of the flower. Then I stamped it twice on the 5″ x 2-1/4″ Whisper White strip and paper pieced the cut-out flowers on top. The hearts of the little flowers were colored in with a marker, and the hearts of the big flowers were stamped in Cameo Coral and punched out, then adhered with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

I decided to move my ribbon to a different location, and layered the sentiment on top of a Certainly Celery oval over the ribbon. Hope I did Lisa proud!

Together Forever

Together Forever

Here is a 5″ x 5″ wedding/anniversary card that I created using Beate’s Weekend Sketch. Very simple, yet elegant, thanks to the lovely Porcelain Prints Designer Series paper. I used both sides of the same double-sided sheet on the card.

The white scalloped edge was created with the 3/16″ Corner Rounder Punch (guide removed) and tucked underneath the 1″ green DS paper strip. The ghosted sentiment was first stamped in Whisper White Craft ink and then again, right next to it, in Blue Bayou ink. Couldn’t have done it without my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig!

Featured Stamper: Dawn McVey

Featured Stamper: Dawn McVey

One of my Great Swaps friends was last Sunday’s Featured Stamper on SCS, so of course I had to participate in the challenge. I looked through Dawn’s wonderful gallery and picked her Gratitude card to CASE. I decided to keep the layout and colors, but change some of the stamps and embellishments on my card.

The Essence of Love flower stamp was inked up with Stampin’ Up! markers, and I added one extra flower on the left hand side to fill in an empty spot. The Thinking of You stamp (from the same stamp set in the Occasions Mini, which by the way has been extended until June 30) was inked up with a Chocolate Chip marker and stamped on two lines, so that the sentiment would fit inside the Aged Copper Hodgepodge frame.

The Real Red Prints Designer Series paper used in the background is from the Prints Pack Level 1 Hostess award.
