Kristina Werner posted her 10th Color Inspiration Challenge last Friday, but it took me a few days to come up with a card. In the process of making the card, I discovered that the rub-ons don’t stick to felt flowers very well. They work just fine on paper (and other surfaces), though!
The sentiment was stamped in Craft ink and embossed with clear Stampin’ Emboss powder. If you click on the picture, a larger image will appear.

Maren Benedict (aka mmbc) is today’s Featured Stamper on SCS. I’m so happy I get to swap GSG cards with her; her work is awesome!
This may be the longest card I have ever made! It measures 9″ x 3-3/4″ and is made out of textured River Rock card stock. I CASEd Maren’s Inspired Friend Spotlight card because I really liked the layout with the four scalloped circles. The colors were picked from the Western Sky Designer Series paper and I used the coordinating Wanted stamp set. I wasn’t sure if or where I wanted a sentiment on the card, so I left it off.

May 31st, 2008 · Comments Off on Featured Swapper: Jimmi Mayo

As a kid, I always enjoyed doing those “Find the Difference” games in magazines. Well, you should be able to spot the differences between Jimmi’s Sassy Dahlia card and mine pretty easily, but the biggest difference is that my flower has an extra petal! I don’t know what happened, but after following the Dahlia Fold tutorial on SCS, there was a big gap in my flower and I needed to add an extra (9th) petal.
So you see, Jimmi, there are people much more “fold impaired” than you! Congratulations on being the Featured Swapper this week!
I hope you’ll play along with this Great Swaps Girls challenge!

May 30th, 2008 · Comments Off on Graduation Spinner Card

It’s that time of year again – the end of the school year! I wanted to teach a spinner card at my stamp class this weekend, and I decided to make it a graduation card. It’s really fun to see that graduation cap spinning from side to side!
The design is clean and simple. I stamped the cap image from Year after Year several times in Sahara Sand ink on Brushed Gold card stock, which gave it a nice watermark effect. The sentiment was stamped in Basic Black in the right bottom corner. I created a “channel” by repeatedly punching with my word window punch, which I pushed all the way to the top edge of the gold card stock.
The spinning cap was stamped in Basic Gray ink on Basic Gray card stock and cut out, with a little gold brad as the only embellishment. Now for the fun part: you take a penny and place a Stampin’ Dimensional in its center, then place another penny on top, like a sandwich. You can take a sharp pencil and push in the points of the hexagon a bit, so that the Dimensional becomes rounder and spins more easily. The cut-out gray cap was adhered on top of the second penny with another Dimensional, then the bottom penny was slipped inside the channel. If you carefully lift the other side of the channel, you can push the entire penny through. The gold card stock was adhered to the Basic Black panel with lots of doubled-up Stampin’ Dimensionals (because you need room for the penny to move), and this was mounted on the Basic Gray card.

I like combining the color combination and sketch challenges on SCS because I usually don’t have the time to make two different cards. So, here is my entry for CC168 (Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, and Sage Shadow) and SC178. The finished Sage Shadow card measures 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ and has the fold at the top.
I stamped the small background stamp several times in Chocolate Chip ink on Very Vanilla card stock and colored the centers of the little flowers with my Sage Shadow marker. This piece was layered on Chocolate Chip card stock. Two satin Chocolate Chip ribbons were added, slightly overlapping, and a wide Very Vanilla grosgrain ribbon was layered on top.
The medallion was stamped in Sage Shadow ink and punched out with the scallop circle punch. I then temporarily adhered this to a piece of lightweight scrap paper and punched it again with the scallop circle punch, to create the more pointy edge. The birthday saying in Chocolate Chip was punched out with a 1″ circle punch and adhered with a Stampin’ Dimensional.
