Embossed Reinker Spread

Embossed Reinker Spread

I heard about this cool technique (a real wow) that was demonstrated at the Seattle Regional Seminar last weekend, and thanks to Crystal French’s instructions on the demo side of SCS I was able to try it out for myself.

I stamped the large rose from the Fifth Avenue Floral set with VersaMark ink on Shimmery White card stock (this card stock works best with this technique) and embossed with white powder. I put three drops of reinker on a paint tray: Cameo Coral, Rose Red, and Kiwi Kiss. Then I spritzed the flower with lots of water until puddles formed, dipped an Aqua Painter in the Cameo Coral ink and touched several of the “puddles” with the brush. The ink flowed across the flower. I cleaned the Aqua Painter before moving on to the next color. When the flower was completely colored in this way, I left it to dry before cutting it out.

The rest of the card is pretty self-explanatory (but feel free to ask questions if you have any). I used the layout from Sketch Challenge #8 on the Stampin’ Addicts site for my card.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

How about a card with nice earth tones and a tree image to celebrate Earth Day? I so lucked out with the Sketch Challenge (SC225) on SCS today. It was just perfect for the little tree image from the Forest Friends set that I had set my heart on using today!

I created the four background panels with Walk in the Park and Parisian Breeze Specialty Designer Series Papers. They were matted with Close to Cocoa card stock and adhered to the textured Chocolate Chip panel.

The tree stamp was inked up with Kiwi Kiss ink first. I then removed the ink from the trunk and branches with a blender pen and added Close to Cocoa ink with a marker. The sentiment on the vellum strip is a Chocolate Chip rub-on. I rubbed two vintage brads onto a Chocolate Chip craft ink pad and clear embossed them.

Cherry Birthday Card

Cherry Birthday Card

I am on a roll making birthday cards lately. It really helps when I can find a sketch, color, or inspiration challenge to get me started. This layout is Jen del Muro’s Sketch For You To Try (4/18/09), only I rotated it 90 degrees so that I could use my big Dutch Happy Birthday stamp.

I paired the cherry image from the Tart & Tangy set with two of the cherry sheets in the Rockabilly Specialty DSP package. The piercing on the large white oval and small white circle was done with the use of the piercing template, as I had seen done by Beate Johns in her Paper Piercing Curves tutorial. It worked like a charm!

Zany Black Birthday Card

Zany Black Birthday Card

OK, so these are definitely not my usual colors. I am not a Bold Brights girl at all. But when I checked today’s CAS challenge on SCS (CAS11) and saw the Zany Black Room-in-a-Bag, I was inspired. I thought the Rockabilly Specialty Designer Series Paper would be perfect for my card, especially if I colored in the white dots to match the bedding.

I punched several circles out of bright card stock to match the pillows on the bed. The Happy Birthday sentiment from the Wow Flowers set was stamped with Pink Passion ink on the Almost Amethyst circle, and a Barely Banana brad dresses up the flower.

Looking through today’s Featured Stamper’s gallery on SCS (jaymerz), I found a cute Jungle card to CASE. Since I don’t have any giraffe images, I used the deer from Forest Friends on my card. Because the deer is considerably shorter than the giraffe, I decided to make my card 6″ x 3″ instead of the regular 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ size.

I used textured Kiwi Kiss card stock for the card base and retired DSP for the background. Searching for a long and narrow sentiment, I happily remembered this Happy Birthday stamp in the All Holidays set. Another birthday card for my stockpile!
