Season’s Greetings

Season's Greetings

When I got my new catalog, I was amazed by the many samples I wanted to CASE. This card is one of those “catalog-inspired” creations (check page 33). We don’t have the list of supplies for the projects in the catalog yet (it will be posted on July 1st), but I’m pretty sure they didn’t use the retired Ski Slope DSP! Instead of distressing the bottom edge, I used the scallop edge punch.

It was nice to have a card already designed for me. In the time it usually takes me to come up with and create one card, I made ten of these for the 2009 Christmas Card Challenge on splitcoaststampers.com.

Featured Stamper: Dawn Lusk

Featured Stamper: Dawn Lusk

Dawn L, today’s Featured Stamper on SCS, is also a Dirty Dozen alumna (if you’re not a Fan, you’re definitely missing out!). Talk about intimidating, trying to CASE one of her cards! But I attemped it anyway, choosing Dawn’s Lovely Chocolate card. I was inspired by her color choices, but used Certainly Celery with two of the new In Colors instead: Bermuday Bay and Soft Suede.

The images I used are from a new level 3 hostess set called Kind & Caring Thoughts. I popped one of the flowers up with a dimensional. The partial sentiment from the Boho Backgrounds set was inked up with a Soft Suede marker. I dragged the Soft Suede ink pad across the dry-embossed background, and did the same with the photo corners and the large oval mat before I punched them out of Whisper White card stock.

Another Bird

Another Bird

“Another bird?” is what my husband said when I showed him the card I made for Kristina Werner’s 55th Color Inspiration challenge. I probably could have tried using other stamps, but these were still sitting on my table from my last stamping session and I happen to really like this set, Friends 24-7. The sketch I used is today’s challenge on SCS (SC234).

I stenciled the Kind Thoughts Brocade with Really Rust ink on the Juntos Designer Series Paper and stamped the sentiment with Basic Gray ink in the right bottom corner. The bird image was stamped with Really Rust ink on top of the More Mustard damask, and again on a scrap of Naturals Ivory card stock with Basic Gray ink. I cut out the bird and adhered it to the card with dimensionals.

Featured Stamper: Christy Lynn

Featured Stamper: Christy Lynn

Even though this is supposed to be a CASE of Featured Stamper Christy S.‘s Modified Tapestry card, it was also very much inspired by Lisa Somerville’s work (particulary with this stamp set). I just got the Friends 24-7 stamp set and Kind Thoughts Brocade stencil and wanted to play with them today.

I kept the monochromatic blue theme and layout of Christy’s card, but used a different technique for the bottom part. The “Wet Stencil” technique was featured in the April 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter, and I used my Not Quite Navy crayon with the stencil. I also added three Not Quite Navy brads, and colored the white ribbon with (diluted) Not Quite Navy ink before laying it on top of a strip of Not Quite Navy card stock. Not bad for a long-neglected color!

International Flair

International Flair

Silvia had a wonderful idea for the Limited Supplies Challenge today (LSC225): Make a card using a different language on it. I assume she meant different from your native tongue (which in my case is Dutch), but I thought I should use something other than English as well. Luckily, I own the Spanish version of the Elegant Thank You stamp set (of 1) — one of the Under $10 items in the back of the catalog.

I also followed the sketch of this week’s Clean and Simple Cards challenge (CAS19). Using the distressed-looking Razzleberry Lemonade paper for my background, I decided to “roughen” things up even more by using the distressing tool in the Cutter Kit and tearing the edges of my image panel. Hopefully my card is not too “dirty” for the “clean” & simple challenge!
