Modern Birthday Bliss

Birthday cards are my favorite cards to send. That’s probably why I immediately fell in love with this cute new little set called Birthday Bliss. I just made a quick, “clean and simple” card for this week’s challenge on SCS (CAS22), using some of the new Designer Series Paper, which was cut with the new Scallop Square Bigz clear die.

Thanks for stopping by!

Featured Stamper: Sandra MacLean

Here’s a quick card with the hedgehog (and butterfly) from the Fun & Fast Notes set in honor of today’s Featured Stamper on SCS, B-gin-R. I found a cute card with a hedgehog in her gallery, which reminded me of this image. I dug up some old patterned paper with dots and used new textured In Color card stock for my card base.

The white organza ribbon was dyed with Going Gray ink but turned into an almost brownish color, which is why I chose to add it to the card. I really like how Sandra matted her image, so I did the same.

Smackin’ Acetate

Smackin' Acetate

I just love saying the name of this technique: “Smackin’ Acetate.” This is how I made the background for this card: I took a clear plastic paper protector and cut off the side and bottom, so that it opened completely. Then I scribbled on it with three different markers (Real Red, Melon Mambo, and Old Olive), spritzed water over it, and closed the folder (smacked the acetate) and moved the colors around with my fingers. When I opened the acetate folder I placed two pieces of Glossy White card stock inside the folder with the glossy side facing out and closed it back up. With my fingers I moved the colors over the paper until I was happy with the result.

After the paper had dried, the Kind & Caring Thoughts image was first stamped with second generation Going Gray ink, and then with full strength Real Red ink right next to the first image. ‘Thank you’ was stamped with black ink on white paper and punched out. I sponged Melon Mambo ink around the edge before I placed it inside the silver frame and added the polka-dot ribbon (the dots are only on one side of the ribbon, which makes it very versatile).

The colors I picked for this card were inspired by Dawn’s Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #11.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans, and thanks for stopping by!

Is This Love?

The first person who leaves me a comment with the correct “answer” will receive this card in the mail!

ETA: Joy S figured out that I printed the word love (translated into binary code) at the bottom of the card!

I made this card for a new catalog swap with some of the Great Swaps Girls and I received my package back today. Perfect timing, as today marks the first day of the 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up! catalog! Speaking of love, I LOVE this new catalog. So glad we get to keep this one for an entire year!

My card is very clean and simple, and uses some of the new products we (demonstrators) were able to pre-order: Lots of Bots stamp set, Melon Mambo card stock and polka-dot ribbon, and the Punch Windows Movers & Shapers. Hope the girls like it!

Make It Sparkle

Make It Sparkle

That was the Clean and Simple Cards Challenge on SCS this week (CAS21). I decided to use the word sparkle from the Warm Words set underneath three sparkly chipboard stars in Fall-To Layout #46.

I first inked up these (retired) On Board stars with Whisper White Craft ink and dried them with the heat tool. Then I sponged two of them with Classic ink (Real Red and Pacific Point). I mixed Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds together in a paint bottle, covered the stars with this mixture, and let them dry overnight.

I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and embossed with white powder. Next I drew a frame large enough to fit all three stars on the Night of Navy card. It was tough to capture the sparkle of the stars in my photograph, but I hope you can see it better when you enlarge the picture by clicking on it.
