Bleached Flowers

Bleached Flowers

A tall and skinny card is what Beate’s sketch challenge called for this weekend. In Beate’s honor, I decided to use Chocolate Chip for my 3″ x 6″ card base and Afternoon Tea Designer Series paper for the background. I stamped the Fresh Cuts image in Craft ink on Soft Sky card stock and embossed it with clear powder. Then I took a small watercolor brush dipped in bleach and “colored in” the flowers. When the bleach dried, the flowers looked almost white.

The Thinking of You sentiment was first stamped in Classic Chocolate Chip ink on textured Whisper White card stock and punched out with the 1″ Circle Punch. I stamped it again on Soft Sky card stock and punched out the inside 1/2″ circle. These circles were layered onto the 1-1/4″ Soft Sky mat, which fits perfectly on the 1-1/2″ aluminum metal edge tag.

Featured Swapper: Becky Carafa

There would be no Great Swaps Girls without Becky! She is the one who put this fabulous group of stampers and SU! demonstrators together, and we are having so much fun! I gladly CASEd one of her awesome cards for the Featured Swapper challenge this week: Celebrate.

I followed a color combination suggestion from Stampin’ Up!’s 2007-2008 In Color Combinations Chart. I changed the sentiment to my favorite one from the All Holidays set. But I kept Becky’s layout and background stamps, and tried to do her Clean & Simple style justice.

Imagine Summer by the Sea

Imagine Summer by the Sea

On this first day of summer, I thought it would be appropriate to use the Summer by the Sea stamp set for Kristina Werner’s 12th color inspiration challenge. Summer by the Sea is one of those sets that never seems to make it back into the SU! catalog, but it is still available for purchase, as are all the other items on the dormant list.

I had a hard time trying to bring Sahara Sand into the card, and it ended up as a large circle on the inside of the card (but still visible). The image was stamped in White StazOn ink on acetate, and this was adhered behind the circular window in the card. I added a So Saffron circle around the image, and drew little dots with my white gel pen.

The sentiment is a white rub-on from the Eastern Elegance set, and the ribbon is part of the Fairy Tale Ribbon Originals.

Decorative Flourishes

Baroque Motif’s Flourishes

If you like the flourishes in the Baroque Motifs stamp set, you may enjoy hearing that these flourishes will soon be available in Stampin’ Up!’s new product line, called Décor Elements. Décor Elements is vinyl artwork for walls, mirrors, windows, or other hard, smooth surfaces, and you can order from this brochure on July 1, 2008.

My card combines two SCS challenges: yesterday’s Color Combination challenge and today’s Sketch Challenge. I stamped the swirls in VersaMark on the Kraft card and in Craft Basic Black ink on textured Soft Sky card stock. They were then embossed with Iridescent Ice powder. The Kraft flowers were punched with the Boho Blossoms punch and decorated with clear round rhinestone brads from the Pretties Kit.

I stamped the little flower in Soft Sky ink on a 5/8″ strip of Whisper White card stock and adhered it with the Soft Sky piece to a 4-1/2″ x 3-1/4″ Basic Black panel. Elegant Kraft taffeta ribbon was knotted around the panel before I attached it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Featured Swapper: Vickie Waugh

I’m so glad Vickie joined the Great Swaps Girls two months ago – her clean-looking cards are truly wonderful! I found this little gem in her SCS gallery and decided to turn mine into a Christmas card. “Farewell Festive Favorites” could also have been the title of this post, as Stampin’ Up! decided to put this favorite stamp set of mine on the retired stamps list today.

I stamped the little tag with the tree in Always Artichoke ink on Soft Sky and Certainly Celery card stock and on two different sheets of (retired) Wintergreen Designer Series Paper. After cutting everything out, I paper pieced it together again. The sentiment is from the Punch Pals stamp set and was inked up with an Always Artichoke marker. I added a little glitter to the star, and some Crystal Effects to the ornaments in the tree.

Hope you play along with this GSG challenge!
