Happy Mother’s Day, Mama!

Happy Mother's Day, Mama!
Gelukkige moederkesdag! In my home province of Antwerp, Belgium (and also in Costa Rica, according to Wikipedia) Mother’s Day is celebrated on August 15. I decided to make a 6-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ card with Verve’s One Person stamp set, which contains many sentiments that are perfect for this holiday.

I was inspired by the AVS2010A Verve Release sketch challenge and used paper, ink, and ribbon in my new favorite SU! In Color: Concord Crush.

Thanks for stopping by!

Extreme Pinwheel

August 7th, 2010 · 3 Comments

Extreme Pinwheel
I’m attending another shoebox swap north of Baltimore today, and this is the card I took with me. I had made a faux pinwheel card before, but saw a slightly different approach in the Technique Junkie Newsletter that I wanted to give a try. I like the way the pinwheel is matted with this version of the technique.

The 30-person swap called for all Stampin’ Up! supplies (current or retired), which gave me a chance to use up some of my Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. The image I stamped with Rich Razzleberry ink on the white squares in the pinwheel is from the Extreme Elements stamp set. It almost makes it look as if the wheel really is spinning (it’s not, though).

Anni-Verve-sary Blog Hop

August 1st, 2010 · 92 Comments

Welcome to the Anni-Verve-sary Blog Hop! Verve turns three today and is celebrating with a hop, hop, hop! If you’ve already been hopping along, you arrived here from Betty Wright‘s blog. If not, head on over to Julee’s Blog (owner of Verve), for all the info on how to win prizes (after all, what’s a party without presents?), and to start hopping from the beginning. If there’s a hiccup along the hop, you can always head to the Master Hop List to get the full list of links.

Big Wish

I wanted to use the round swirly image from the Happy Days set on my card today, because this stamp reminds me how awesome Verve Stamps is. I purchased this set when it was first released and before I even had a chance to get it inky, I received another stamp with this image in the mail. Because of a manufacturer’s defect, Julee immediately sent out replacement stamps to everybody who had ordered the set. How’s that for customer service!

I used this week’s Sketch for You to Try to help me get going with my card. Maybe I went a little overboard with the distress inks, but I just started using them and they are so much fun.

Thanks for hopping by! Now it’s time to hop on over to Verve DIVA Shannan Teubner’s blog, for a little more Verve-y goodness.

It Takes Two to Tandem

It Takes Two to Tandem

Never been on one, but this was the perfect image to put on my 16th wedding anniversary card to my bicycle-loving husband. I stamped the image and the teeny tiny sentiment on the die-cut with the help of the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for perfect placement.

I was very much inspired by my friend LeeAnn’s Old Fashioned Quilt card to make this distressed-looking background. The 1-1/4″ squares were adhered to a 5″ square piece of card stock which was then run through the Big Shot with the scallop square die (I used the “leftovers” to decorate the inside of my card). Then the scalloped square was dry-embossed with the polka dots EF and the dots lightly sanded to make them stand out more.

Gill Did It!

My good friend Gill (aka my “kid”) got her driver’s license last week and I couldn’t be happier for her. I made this card to congratulate her, using this week’s color and sketch challenges on SCS. It gave me a chance to use some of Stampin’ Up!’s new colors: Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, and Concord Crush.
