Snakeskin Technique

Snakeskin Technique

I have been wanting to try out this snakeskin technique from the Patstamps Technique Junkie Newsletter (October 2008 issue), and the colors in Kristina Werner’s latest Color Inspiration Challenge (#31) were just perfect for it. Although, what was I going to do with Elegant Eggplant?

The background was created by sponging the following colors onto Whisper White card stock: first So Saffron, then Pumpkin Pie, and lastly Close to Cocoa. Then I pressed the VersaMark pad all over the paper and poured clear embossing powder on top. With the excess powder removed, I drew lines with the tip of my bone folder to create the “snakeskin” look. When I was finished drawing the lines in both directions, I melted the powder with my heat gun.

I didn’t feel like covering up too much of the background, so I kept my image panel small. The Pocket Silhouettes image was stamped with Elegant Eggplant and Close to Cocoa inks, and the edges of the Whisper White card stock were sponged with So Saffron ink. The scalloped mat was created by gluing two Close to Cocoa scalloped squares onto each other.

Pacific Point Paisley

Pacific Point Paisley

I really wanted to stamp the big Paisley background with Pacific Point ink for this card (and I really liked how it looked), but I didn’t quite know what to do with the rest of the card. I decided to try the SCS color combination challenge (by adding Basic Gray and Certainly Celery) and use Beate’s weekend sketch (#66). The ribbon flower was an idea I picked up at Stampin’ Up!’s regional seminar last week.

I stamped the snowflake from the Scandinavian Season set on the non-textured side of the Basic Gray card stock and then punched out 1/8″ holes along the image for my ribbon flower. I threaded a 14″ long Whisper White taffeta ribbon through the holes, and placed a Build-A-Brad in the center of the flower. The flower images on the Build-A-Brads were stamped with the Paisley background and punched out with a 1/2″ circle punch.

The Chit Chat rub-on was cut in four pieces so that the sentiment would fit in the small space next to the Basic Gray panel. I love the variety of sayings in this package of rub-ons!

Hello, Wonderful You

Hello, Wonderful You

I really love the colors Kristina Werner picked for her challenge this week (#30): Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Sahara Sand, and Whisper White. I was inspired by the duvet cover in the picture; perhaps you can tell?

I inked up the Stems & Silhouettes jumbo wheel by rolling it across the Sahara Sand ink pad and then rolled it on Whisper White card stock. The Wonderful You flowers were stamped and then cut out; two of them were adhered to the card with dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped vertically with the retired Rough Edges Mini Alphabets stamp set. A piece of wide Certainly Celery grosgrain ribbon finishes off the card.

Virginia Beach SCS Swap

Virginia Beach SCS Swap

Today I’m joining a whole bunch of enthusiastic Stampin’ Up! demonstrators at the Regional Seminar in Virginia Beach, VA. I signed up for a swap with 19 other Splitcoaststampers, and we’ll be having dinner together after the seminar. This is the card I made for them, featuring the To You & Yours stamp set.

I decided to use a Top Note die cut for this tent topper card (idea by Michelle Wooderson). The card base is an 8-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Night of Navy card stock, folded in half. The Night of Navy Top Note die cut is adhered to the card for a total height of 5-1/2,” which means the card still fits in a regular size envelope. The Baroque background was stamped with Night of Navy ink (my DH said it looked like velvet), and the Cute & Curly stamp was inked up with a marker, to omit the words inside the frame. The To You & Yours saying fit perfectly inside the frame.

Unusual Color Combo

Unusual Color Combo

Kristina Werner picked this unusual color combo for her latest Color Inspiration Challenge (#29), and I gave it my best shot. If you are looking for the Taken with Teal on my card, I stamped the solid flowers on scrap paper before I hit the Whisper White card stock. The outline image was stamped with Elegant Eggplant ink. The card base is Pacific Point textured card stock, and I used a Pumpkin Pie sheet of Summer Picnic Designer Series Paper.

I really like using the rub-ons on textured card stock, and I am very happy with my double scalloped border. I can’t wait to see what everybody else did with these colors!
